Root Canal Therapy

Unfortunately, teeth do not have the ability to heal on their own. When there is disease or trauma caused to the nerve, root canal therapy is a crucial dental treatment that saves teeth from extraction. It is required when the nerve inside your tooth is infected or has been invaded either from advanced tooth decay or exposes due to an injury to the tooth.

When the enamel has been compromised, the nerve inside the tooth can become infected, also called an abscess. The abscess might occur inside the tooth or at the tip of your root. This abscess is capable of destroying the bone that surrounds the tooth which causes severe pain and discomfort.

Signs of an infected tooth include:

• Constant pain and pressure or a sharp pain when biting
• Overreactive to hot or cold food and beverages
• The tooth begins to darken, which indicates the nerve is damaged or dying slowly
• Pain and tenderness in your gums that becomes  frequent and severe
• Tooth pain that wakes you up in the middle of the night and affects the quality of your sleep.
• Spontaneous, throbbing tooth pain that is not relieved using over-the-counter pain medications.

Saving your natural teeth is always the first option that we consider at Pure Smiles. There are times, however, when Root Canal Therapy is not the best treatment option for your needs.

If your tooth cannot be saved with root canal therapy, tooth extraction is necessary. We will plan your treatment to replace the missing tooth using a dental implant, dental bridge, or partial denture to restore the function of your teeth.
